Dell Inspiron 6000 keyboard problems and Win 7

I just obtained a Dell Inspiron 6000 from a friend. He was running Windows 7 on it fine as far as I know. I did a clean install of Windows 7 on the laptop today. I am having problems with the keyboard. When I press certain keys, strange things happen. Like extra characters showing up or the wrong character for a certain key. I called Dell and they told me that the laptop "probably" was not compatible with Windows 7. I told them that it was on there before with no problem. They also said it's definitely not a hardware problem. I did not use my friends version of Windows 7 if that matters. I tried finding drivers for the keyboard and also uninstalled the keyboard drivers and rebooted to no avail. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Did you install all the requisite drivers for Win 7 from Dell's website?
