Dell Inspiron N4010 locks up

I have a "2010" Dell Inspiron N4010 laptop with Windows 7, Intel Core i3 CPU, 4.0 GB RAM and 64-bit OS. It locks up completely but just periodically, usually when I am in the middle of drafting a Word document. Any thoughts about how to prevent or work around this?? Charlie

my intial guess is something is short circuiting inside. do u have any of the error log files thatll tell u what happend? it could very well be software based
