Dell Laptop - Inspiron 1545 Damaged display?

Solution

Hello cap07,

My name is Shrikanth and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell. I would suggest you to run LCD built in diagnostics http://dell.to/1lVvIMG and also check the display by connecting to an external monitor. If it works fine on an external monitor then it might be an issue with LCD or the cable. If the display is still the same on...

Hello cap07,

If it works fine on an external monitor then it might be an issue with LCD or the cable. If the display is still the same on external monitor as well then the point of failure might be your motherboard or graphics card (If installed) for which again you will have to replace the motherboard since the graphics card is embedded on it.

Thanks and regards

Hi Shrikanth,
Thanks for your reply. I tried using the external monitor and it works fine :) So I think it's an issue with the LCD. I tried replacing cable once before but it didn't help. If it is the LCD, is there anyway to fix that or would you recommend replacing it?

Also, I ran the diagnostics with the external monitor attached - I can't read the display otherwise. Everything passed.

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

Hi scottiemedic,
Thanks for your reply. I replaced the cable from the motherboard to the display. I'll look into your suggestion about the LCD inverter. I'm kind of an amateur when it comes to computer repair - this is a laptop my brother dropped and was just going to throw away. I decided to see if I could fix it :)

Hi, with an external monitor, you have a good picture, your problem is the cable or the screen itself, you already changed the cable so maybe the screen is the problem.

I looked into the LCD inverter - the laptop doesn't have one. After watching a YouTube video, I figured out that it's an LED screen and not a CCFL screen. At this point, it looks like I need to replace the screen.... unless there other suggestions?

Thanks for your help :)
