Dell Latitude D830 Black Screen

I have a Dell Latitude D830 laptop. I turned it on and the screen is black. I can hear the hard drive working and the hard drive light blinks and my wifi light is on. I hooked up an external monitor and that doesn't work either. Could my display have gone bad?

No, not if an external monitor doesn't work either...

More likely to be the graphics chip on the motherboard

Yes , its under a plate on the bottom, near one of the corners from memory...

Buy a USB caddy to connect it to another machine...they are very cheap...
