can this run windows 7 well? will it be slow? mine is a core duo 1.66ghz with 2gb of ram and an 80gb hard drive....
any tips for running win 7 on this specific laptop would help.

I personally own the same model laptop, although mine is the Core 2 Duo version. I have it fully upgraded to 4gb and a 500gb hard drive. as of now I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and it's flawless. Windows 7 would run fine on your laptop, you may think about a full upgrade to 4gb ram at some point but 2gb is enough to run Win 7 without issue.
