Hey everyone, I have a Dell Studio 1555 that I've managed to keep going.
Upgrades include:
HDD to a SSD
2GB RAM to 4GB.
Since the upgrade to Windows 10 though I can't do anything on the internet anymore, its incredibly slow and freezes.

Router: Netgear NightHawk X4S AC2600 w/ 2.4/5ghz Dual Band

WiFi card in the Dell Studio 1555 is a Intel WiFi-Link 5100 (Driver Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN) (Model: 512AN_ HMW) (Radio type supported on Dell Studio is 802.11a, 802,11b, 802.11g)

I can only connect to the 2.4ghz and it's freezes up Windows 10.

Recommendations of a WiFi card to install? Should I buy a 5ghz USB adapter or Wall-Outlet?

Best,
Tom

Try this....

1. Go to "Control Panel".

2. Next go to "Network and Internet" and then "Network and Sharing".

3. Now click on "Manage Wireless Networks".

4. On this screen, remove all wireless connections by "right clicking" on it and select "Remove network" from the drop down menu.

5. After doing this, close the open windows and reboot the computer.

6. Once the computer is fully reloaded, scan for the "Wi-Fi networks".

7. Click on the available network that you want to access and select "connect".

8. It takes a moment, but then you will be asked to give a password for your Wi-Fi connection. Type in the password and click the "connect" button.

It should now be connected.

NOTE: If this doesn't work, you may want to reset your modem/router, and then once it is fully loaded again, repeat the above steps.

If this doesn't work, test seeing if your laptop will connect better via Ethernet. If so, then your WiFi card may be going. You can either look to replace it/have it replaced, or get an external (plugs in via USB) WiFi card.

Also, you may want to check as to any programs or services that 10 is running that access the net which you aren't using and auto load when the computer starts.
