LOL every company i've contacted who have used remote access software to gain access have asked for my explicit permission to do so. Be it Microsoft, Dell, HP, ASUS...etc

Those guys never take remote access unless you give them the permission

But then again i can't say anything for sure in this case...
Maybe the Agent helping went rogue lol
Or maybe the customer is trying to get money out of Dell
Or maybe this is all a caused by bad communication

reminds me of the Apple tech who remotely photographed the macbook theif in NY a couple years ago...at the time I wondered if anyone would use the tech for inappropriate purposes...

of course they offer remote access support... I couldn't imagine working at a tech related call center without it... 90% of ppl who call are friggin idiots in the first place... I work for Verizon fios and someone didn't even know where the damn power button was on the TV...

Well, Dell uses our software for remote support, so I have a pretty good idea what's been going on. When you allow remote access, you explicitly trust the other side because you give them the power to do anything you could do on the computer with the logged in credentials. An abuse like that IS grounds for a lawsuit against Dell in my understanding. And the session probably was recorded - that's a standard feature of our product so I can't imagine Dell turning it off. It doesn't have the audio of the phone call, but it's hard to imagine Dell wouldn't be recording these as well - for precisely such purposes.

(Since this is not an ad placement, I'll not mention the names of our company and our product.)

@edilee "another reason you should not buy a Dell" and what would you suggest to buy? a piece of garbage lenovo.

Wait a second, I happen to know how the helpdesks work, and they record all calls, this is just a retarded media story which can be opened and closed immediately.

The recording will confirm what happened and if it was discussed, and the woman has no foot to stand on so WTF is this about!?

I really should get my tech certs already and get a job at Dell... (and get fired in only a week for innaporpiate uses of company software)

[citation][nom]TheDuke[/nom]laughing at an unhappy customernot that smart Dell[/citation]

If they find the software that made this possible, I'll believe it. Otherwise user error is at fault.

I work in the customer support at another company. Honestly customer support is the worst kind of IT job you will ever have.

You have to put up with ALL THE RETARDS IN THE WORLD!

You also find out that THE RETARDS ARE MORE THE YOU HAVE EVER IMAGINED!!

And you tell me she knew what was going on when people dont even know you have to plug in the damn pc to turn it on.

Gimme a break.

"Dell Connect" is the program dell uses to connect remotely
Things that someone needs to do in order to connect with dell
1. go to a website
2. click on the region
3. click on a specific number that is the same as the rep has
4. click on I Agree on the terms and conditions page
5. type in a specific number code and click ok
6. click download
7. run that application
7.1 if running windows vista, that darned UAC will also pop up

that's a lot of things that woman "missed"...

then again, I personally know of a someone who trimmed down an install of windows because it was taking up too much space: by deleting things in program files and windows folder that 'he didn't need'

This is why you should not outsource your tech support to india. Leave it here in America. At least I would have the common courtesy to make sure that it would not alert her that I activated the webcam.

Come on people...stop being stupid. Webcams are used for one thing only nowadays...and that is to show your dirty pillows to people on the internet. If you are not showing your goodies to the world then slap a piece of tape over the camera.

Problem solved. That will be $59.99 please.

User error is at fault 99% of the time, especially if they bought a Dell product.

The tech support guy probably works in Mumbai, for the company to whom Dell outsourced tech support. At most, Dell will express "dismay" to that company, which will undoubtedly reprimand the technician and "instruct" all their techs about this kind of thing, but probably take no further action, which is unfortunate.
FWIW, I am a "user support specialist" myself. Whether my job title has been or is "LAN Administrator," "Systems Analyst," "Computer Tech," "Programmer/Analyst," or whatever, I have always seen my job as assisting others to get their work done. The people who call on me may be clueless about their PCs, but most of them are very highly skilled in some other area, about which I may know very little (although I will ask so I can help them better). I take enough pride in the quality of my work that I really can't stand lame tech support.

[citation][nom]stupid chicks[/nom]who cares. Don't sit in front of your computer naked. this is just stupid. if i was the representative I would have laughed also. stupid woman.[/citation]
Don't sit in front of your computer naked? I thought that's how porn machines work...
