I have a new Denon AVR-X3300W receiver with various HDMI inputs and a, a single HDMI cable connected to my TV.
No issue with the HDMI in/out side of it but one apparent 'requirement' is irritating me...
If I turn it on the receiver and start playing audio content via the 'network input' (e.g. if I use Spotify Connect) I get no sound. I discovered that to get sound I either need to take out the HDMI lead from the TV (I can then plug it straight back in and the sound continues) or turn the TV on. In other words the receiver is demanding the HDMI output end is 'there' regardless of the whether the input needs to display anything. Now, the receiver does display track info about the networked content on the TV if it's on, but surely it shouldn't be a necessity to have visual output of any kind when playing purely audio content?
