Desktop background

My friends computer wont let her change her desktop picture it was working then decided not to. You can change with just plain background colors but if you click on installed themes or windows backgrounds it just goes black. She had a new toshiba laptop and windows 7 dont have more details i dont have the computer in front of me.

What version of Windows 7 is stilled? Starter? Home Premium?

Windows 7 Starter:
The Windows Aero theme is not included in this version. The desktop wallpaper and Visual Styles (Windows 7 Basic) are not user-changeable.

It id windows premium, she was able to change the background last week and now she cant.

Sounds like a Windows 7 issue and not a laptop issue.
