I found a boxed "Star Trek" game for the TI 99/4A, included the
cartridge, box with the plastic lid (which is cracked) and the manual.

I paid $5 for it, was that too much?

I don't have a problem paying $5 for much of anything, if I want it.
You can't always expect sellers to work down to the 50 cent price point
you think you should be able to pay. $5 is a Big Mac combo meal... why
qibble over it?

Enjoy the game. :)

Instead of worrying about what others think, ask yourself the question,
"Is this game worth $5 to me?". If you think it is, then you did good.
If it's worth even more to you, like $10, then you scored.

They told me that a Vectrex and a bag full of games and other goodies
for $25 was no big deal.

Have you ever had a thought that you didn't post to this newsgroup?
It's cute and all, but it's getting old.
