Did the SNES / Genesis fight the good fight?

Did the Sega Genesis and the Super NES fight hard to stay alive against
the 32 bit systems? (or should I say SYSTEM: Playstation?).

I mean, who knows what was going on in the mind of the Genesis / SNES?
They scoffed at CD-i and 3dO. Heck, they even kicked the 64-bit
Jaguar's ASS!

Could they have known that within 2 years, the PSX would destroy them
BOTH?

Oh for the love of -- It's almost not worth trying to explain this to
you. I can't believe someone who apparently has such an interest in
video games can be so absolutely blind and obvlivious to the obvious.

The Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo were never really in direct
competition with the 'next gen' systems such as the Playstation or the
Saturn. They were being phased out during that period in favour of the
newer systems. Sure you had some overlap, but you always do. Especially
towards the end of a system 3rd party companies will continue to
support them because they know they can make a buck because there are
always people that still have the older systems and there's no real
comptetition at that point as everyone else has moved on, but even then
that's got a finite lifespan.

Your statement is like saying 'So did the Atari 2600 put up a good
fight against the Genesis?'. Sure they were making Atari 2600 games in
1990, but that's only becaues of its rediculous installed base. By that
point it definitely wasn't a viable system and nobody in their right
minds would have thought otherwise.

And finally, for the most part you don't really want major developers
stuck making games for the previous generation because that's going to
take away from 'new game' development on the newer systems which will
(hopefully) offer them more freedom to create better games. [In
theory].

Open your eyes!

WHY NOT? Are you telling me the Genesis and Super Nintendo were NOT in
competition with the 32-bit 3DO or the 64-bit jaguar?

Tell me then, sir, why were the Genesis and Super Nintendo not phased
out in favor of these obviously superior "next gen" systems?

Man, OK, here's some homework. Find out which company (or companies)
released the Jaguar and the 3DO. Now go look up who released the Saturn
and N64. That should give you your answer as to why the SNES and
Genesis were phased out when they were.

If you're still confused (which I can only imagine you will be), look
up why Nintendo keeping the NES around too long lost them so much
market share to Sega. Drawing a diagram with crayons -may- help to keep
everything straight. [HINT: The people who feed you may have crayons,
ask them!]

After that, take a large blunt instrument and pound it against your
head. Maybe that will help, too?

Also, wouldn't 'Football' by M Network have made an excellent arcade
game? Think about that for awhile, then think about it again.

No, i've seen ye olde Space Boss for years now. On one hand I guess
he's good for activity, but on the other the stuff he comes up with is
sooo stupid it's not much better than the porno spam. It makes me
wonder if we're dealing with somebody screwing with the group, or maybe
someone with um 'a disability' of some sort.

I guess we should all just killfile him.

You know, Jack, you seem basically like an OK guy, but you're not much
of a logician. Before you start talking down to me with authority,
let's take a look AT WHAT YOU SAID:

"The Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo were never really in direct
competition with the 'next gen' systems such as the Playstation or the
Saturn. "

That is your statement, sir, which is what this little discussion here
is based on. NOW TELL ME, WHICH COMPANY RELEASED THE "PLAYSTATION"? WAS
IT SEGA OR NINTENDO????

And here we go back to phase one, which was already answered. You
didn't do your homework.

So we're left with this scenerio:

1) You're not really this stupid, you're just trolling for replies.

2) You are this stupid (I'm sorry) and are only trying to pass the time
between cartoons in the morning and dinner time when you get to eat
fish sticks (again) at whatever institution you are currently residing
at. You keep telling people about how M Network was the industry leader
until they blew it by not making more games like Astrosmash, but mostly
people ignore you and tell you that if you keep it up you'll never get
promoted to shoes with laces again.

Either way we should probably just ignore you.

See, that's just the thing, it wasn't. You post a bunch of nonsense in
response as a smokescreen to cover up your folly. Let's take a look at
what's REALLY going on here, shall we?

YOU stated that the Super NES and Genesis were never in competition
with the Playstation. Now Sega released the Saturn, so maybe I'll let
you off the hook on that one.

But why, sir, may I ask was the Super NES not in competition with the
Playstation during the period between the playstations launch and the
launch of the N64?????????????????????????? The Super NES was in
competition with the 3DO and Jaguar. Why is the situation different
with the Playstation? (that is, until the release of the N64)?

Mmm... fishsticks. Can I have some curly fries with that?

Because, you fishstick-loving manchild - The SNES was already in its
decline. Nintendo had all ready stopped all 1st party production, and
2nd and 3rd party production was slowing to a stop. Nintendo didn't even
attempt to put up a fight of SNES vs PSX. Nintendo knew that Sony had
the new technology and had to put out a new system to compete. Enter
N64.

Just saying that the systems had games being released in an overlapping
time frame doesn't mean they competed. Stadium Mud Buggies came out for
Intellivision in '89; that doesn't mean they were in competition against
the NES. Dreamcast still has a few games a year coming out in Japan,
does that mean they're going to be competing against XB360? No.

Yesk, because Nintendo and Sony were developing together a system, where
Nintendo put the plug out before it eventually saw the sunlight. So, yes
Nintendo knew that Sony would come out with there own engine.

Silly statements... That could also mean, because there are still games
coming out for the c64, that the c64 is still in competition to, say, PC.
Thats just nonsense.
If a system is death, is death. Even if there are software puring from
somewhere.

Thanks for taking the time to answer our friend mr. thick, maybe it
will sink in.

Some may think I'm being a bit hard, but here's my problem with Space
Boss. My guess is he'll be sitting in the corner one day and comes up
with some crazy notion about 1 + 2 = 13.5. He decides he'll post
something about it, asking for opinions. Only, he's not really asking
for opinions or discussion because after you point out that his theory
is more than a little off, he won't just accept that, he'll sit there
and argue with you. I blame this on the fact that he has nothing better
to do, especially since that asian kid stepped on and broke the last
ping pong ball last week.

So basically talking to him is like beating your head against a large
sponge - you don't even get that euphoric feeling of zen after a few
hours. If he was just some young kid that really didn't understand, I
don't think we'd mind explaining life, etc. to him. But I don't think
I've seen one conversation involving him in which he didn't stick and
defend his goofball theory to the very end. Amusing for a bit maybe,
but eventually you hope that somebody might post a bangingly good topic
on if you know where your going when you die to break the tedium.
