Yesk, because Nintendo and Sony were developing together a system, where
Nintendo put the plug out before it eventually saw the sunlight. So, yes
Nintendo knew that Sony would come out with there own engine.

Silly statements... That could also mean, because there are still games
coming out for the c64, that the c64 is still in competition to, say, PC.
Thats just nonsense.
If a system is death, is death. Even if there are software puring from
somewhere.
