Dear People,

Similar questions have been asked multiple times before, but not this exact question I believe.

I have an old HP nc6220 with 1gb ram. (512mb soldered, 512 mb removable). I would like to expand the memory, but have read that it is undesireable to have 2 different size memory sticks. In my case 512 mb is soldered (and thus can't be changed) and 512 is in a slot at the bottom of the laptop.

The question is: Would it do more harm than good to replace the removeable stick by a 1GB in order to make the total memory size 1,5GB?

Thank you in advance!

I don't think that it would harm unless you use different types of rams (DDR2 and DDR3 mixed).

BUT: Seeing your PC config I thing upgrading the ram may not do much good

After looking at the quick specs of your laptop (http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12130_na/12130_na.PDF) it appears your upgrade options depend on whether or not the 512MB that is not removable is in slot 1 or 2. If it is in slot 1 then 1GB is the max. If it is in slot 2 then 1.5GB is the max.
Standard Memory:
256 MB (256 MB x 1)
512 MB (512 MB x 1 or 256 MB x 2)
1024 MB (1024 MB x 1 or 512 MB x 2)
