Digital Flash vs Strobe

Have noticed many ads for 3, 4 and 5 mgs Digital Cameras and most
hardly mention the flash and some refer in the pictures of the camera
as it being a strobe. Any pointers here for a newby buying digital
camera regarding the flash capabilitys.

The built in flash that comes with most cameras is only good
to about 10 feet (3 meters).

They are good in a pinch, but the results are often 'harsh' and they
are very prone to causing red-eye. You can't beat an external
flash.. If you're serious about flash photography, look for
a camera that will accept an external unit..

The built in flashes are OK for snapshots if you are not too far away.

If you plan on serious flash work, make sure the camera will accept an
additional flash.
