Any idea how DirecTV is going to phase out Tivo to use their own DVR?

DirecTV is NOT going to phase-out TiVo.....yes, they are going to
promote their own branded NON-TiVo DVR,but BOTH services are going to
run CONCURRENTLY for the foreseeable future.DirecTV even has stated this
themselves.

Really?? The last thing in the Business section of my paper was that now
that production problems with the Direct unit are fixed, they are
accelerating deployment and Tivo is dead. Phase out has begun.

They would stop stelling TiVos and stop sending out replacement TiVos to
current customers.

That's about the only thing they can do. The current DirecTiVos out there
will continue to work about forever, or until their hardware breaks,
whichever comes first.

Of course, having their own DVR would be the first step.

Thanks all. I figured that a concurrent system would be in place.
One really wonders if it truly would be more profitable for them to do
it this way.
You'd think that just keeping two systems would cut way into whatever
profit they might get selling their own DVR. I would imagine that it
will have a completely different (as much as copyright will allow)
interface Even then you know they'll be discounting the hell out of the
unit.

Probably the same way UltimateTV DVRs are being phased out.

The DirecTV DVR with TiVo will be sold until there are no more
and if new inventory doesn't arrive, something else will be sold.

*grumble* If my UTV box hadn't suffered a hardware failure, I'd be
using it still!

The truth is the truth, and opinion just opinion. But what is what?
My employer pays to ignore my opinions; you get to do it for free.

No phaseout, just a decreased emphasis on TiVo

I second that, The only reason I switched was because mine bit the dust.
The tivo is good too but the UTV box had better options for setting up
recordings.

Someone in the group mentioned using folders to store recordings. Did I
misunderstand? Is this used to transfer to the PC? Thanks for any info on
this.

This only applies to certain models though, not all TiVos.
