I was tested at 95wpm on an old Selectric and made my living as a really fast typist. Now I'm reduced down to two-finger hunt and peck with many mistakes and super slow on my laptop. Because of that pad in front where my wrists touch and type all kinds of gibberish.

DESIGN FLAW!

Designed for dilettantes with no serious use.

External KB? Lug that around too? Use up the only USB port?

External mouse? same as above - two externals for one port?

Hub? more to lug!

Suggestions for a real typist doing real work?

Almost every laptop should have some sort of hotkey to disable the touchpad, without knowing specific models, cant tell you what that may be.
Typically is fn+ some Fkey.

that what i was thinking as well. usually fn+ one of the f keys. shold be a key there to turn it off and back on again easy enough
