displayport to hdmi adapter Question

I was thinking of buying a displayport to hdmi adapter and I was wondering if adapters lower the quality of the signal. The thing is my laptop doesnt have an hdmi port only a displayport.

If I'm not mistaken, there's a quality difference between HDMI and DP. A adapter, however, shouldn't lower the quality any more than a HMDI to DP cable would.
