It's necessary to remove the micro SdCard before resetting the machine unless you want it to be cleared of all data.

You can back up your Contacts by tapping the Settings menu in Contacts and choosing Export. You need to connect to a PC or laptop so you can export the entire list which are then can be saved as V-Cards

After the factory reset, the Import choice on the Contacts menu brings them back.
