Docking stations and monitors that fit all laptops

I want a laptop docking station and monitor for my home office - It needs to fit all laptops in case I change the current one. What advice do you have?

For Docking station:
1) inorder to fit all Laptops you would need a USB model as Not all laptops sport a"docking" connector and if they do they are laptop specific.

As to Monitor: Only criteria is that the Monitor does NOT exceed dock/laptop capabilities. Most New laptops (mid range and up) will support 1920 x1080 for an external monitor.
