Does an Alienware 18 last for a long time?

Ive recently bought the 2014 Alienware 18, and I have heard many people saying that laptops aren't a great choice for gaming because they aren't modifiable so you might have to change it every 2-3 years. Is that theory true with the Alienware 18 or Alienwares in general or not?

It's true for any laptop and no manufacturer is immune.

Granted a $3000 laptop will probably last a couple more years than a $1000 laptop, but at some point it's going to become obsolete.

That is (mostly) general of all laptops, Alienware or other.
Depends on what you use it for.

If "upgradability" is what you base a computers greatness on, then yes... laptops in general are not great.
