Does hard disk varies with laptop brands?

My Sony VAIO internal hard disk is corrupted and I want to buy a new one. Can I buy any hard disk? Does all other hard disks suits Sony VAIO? Does it changes with laptop brands? Please suggest me. Thank you

You can buy any, as long as its 2.5inch laptop drive (the standard)
