Hello

I accidentally bought a Dell m4700 with Windows 8 pro without knowing.

I did read that windows 8 pro is downgradable to Windows 7 pro.

My question is, will reinstalling to windows 7 mess up any factory graphics setting or sdd settings?
What will I have to do once I install windows 7?

Lastly, this refurbished windows 7 pro should work right?

Thanks!

If the lack of a Start Menu/Desktop in Windows 8 is the whole problem.. add one for only $3.00 US. Try it at least while you find the right Win7 offer. You may end up keeping Win8 in your Laptop and some money in your pocket... besides, avoiding some problems that will undoubtedly arise with a downgrade.

1. Are there Win7 drivers available for that hardware?

2. It will be a full reinstall. You'll need to reinstall all the drivers, applications, etc.

3. Software from eBay, especially Windows, is almost never a good idea.

There are definitely Windows 7 drivers available for this laptop:

Honestly, assuming the laptop is under warranty, I would give them a call and ask about moving to Windows 7. I found a Dell forum where they have links for the OEM software:

It looks like you may be able to download the OEM Windows 7 disc from there if it's downgradable from Windows 8. If it is, you shouldn't even need to purchase a copy of Windows 7.

However, since it is under warranty, I would give them a call and make sure it's licensed for Windows 7 and, worst case scenario, order a Windows 7 OEM disc from them. If it's licensed, it'll basically be replacement media and probably cost around $10 for them to send you a disc.

As far as reloading, you'll just install Windows 7 and then any necessary drivers from Dell's site. There will also be downloads for any included software.
