i took it out from a old emachines computer. and yes the sata is fastened and i’ve tried multiple cables and tried using the search for drivers featureYou should not need any special drivers for this optical drive. The standard Windows drivers should suffice...if the device is functional.
Does Windows detect it at all? Are both the SATA power and data cables securely fastened, at both ends?
i haven’t but i’m sure it’s not dead, when plugged in the led flashes green and opens and closesIt is likely dead. Have you tried alternative SATA ports?
That doesn't mean the device is functional.i haven’t but i’m sure it’s not dead, when plugged in the led flashes green and opens and closes
it does detect it as a unknown device. That doesn't mean the device is functional.
Does Windows detect it as an unknown device (in Device Manager)?
Windows 10 pro, 10.0.19045 Build 19045. I am on the latest windowsWhat version of Windows are you using and is it fully up to date?
usb-c to sata cableHow do you have a desktop optical drive connected to a laptop?
https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-USB-SATA-Adapter-USB31CSAT3CB/dp/B0133F30R8I suspect your issue is power related. The USB adapter can't provide enough power to the optical drive. You would need some sort of external power to make it work.
What specific cable are you using (link to it)?
Power is the issue. That adapter is okay for a SATA SSD or 2.5 inch HDD, but not an optical drive. Just not enough "juice" (12v).
would this be any better? https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-SATA-USB-Cable-USB3S2SAT3CB/dp/B00HJZJI84Power is the issue. That adapter is okay for a SATA SSD or 2.5 inch HDD, but not an optical drive. Just not enough "juice" (12v).
I don't think so. You need a power source for the optical drive.would this be any better? https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com...ocphy=9031807&hvtargid=pla-343408307412&psc=1
