Question Drivers needed for disc drive

My windows laptop wont detect my disc drive (GH40F) im not sure if any drivers i found are safe so would appreciate somebody helping me

You should not need any special drivers for this optical drive. The standard Windows drivers should suffice...if the device is functional.

Does Windows detect it at all? Are both the SATA power and data cables securely fastened, at both ends?

i took it out from a old emachines computer. and yes the sata is fastened and i’ve tried multiple cables and tried using the search for drivers feature

i haven’t but i’m sure it’s not dead,when plugged in the led flashes green and opens and closes

That doesn't mean the device is functional.

Windows 10 pro, 10.0.19045 Build 19045. I am on the latest windows

usb-c to sata cable

I suspect your issue is power related. The USB adapter can't provide enough power to the optical drive. You would need some sort of external power to make it work.

Power is the issue. That adapter is okay for a SATA SSD or 2.5 inch HDD, but not an optical drive. Just not enough "juice" (12v).

i’m also not sure if power is the issue. on the disk drive sticker it says 5v-12v

I don't think so. You need a power source for the optical drive.
