"Naturally hackers will find a way to modify the DROID X"
No thay won't because it's too expensive - DROID X selfdestructs if you try modding it. http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2010/07/14/droid-x-actually-self-destructs-if-you-try-to-mod-it/
You would have to burn several devices trying...

Kevin, please do us a favour and sound a little less jeering. Andriod is still open, a single crappy company who makes Andriod phones isn't.

Still, sucks for the users (or soon-to-be-ex-users) of Motorola phones. As sh*t as they are.

For those of us whom only have the single cell phone as your only line of making phone calls... best not to mess up your phone by loading a bugged custom rom that will brick your phone...

Ok I keep hearing about this HTC Incredible but when I look at HTC website I only see the Hero and the Legend. Where do people get their info on this phone cause I'm really interested?

[citation][nom]fiduce[/nom]Ok, I was sold ... but this has changed my mind.I will NEVER by ANYTHING from a company that acts that way.[/citation]

Then which company, pray tell, do you plan to buy from? There's not a single cellphone company on the planet that wouldn't "act this way" if they believed it protected their assets like Motorola does.

Won't be long, before someone finds out how to remotely format the flash memory, and install custom roms.

People are buying Android in huge numbers to not have to deal with this kind of crap. Motorola is making a very bold and bad move with this. They are lucky to be back in the spot light and owe it all to Android and its fans so this is like kicking those same people right square in the teeth.

I would bet all the money in my bank account ($1000 bucks) that this is just a rumor. From what I've read, the previous Droid had this eFuse junk in it too. but it wasn't activated. I highly doubt Verizon or Motorola wants to deal with the crap ton of bricked devices that would inevitably be returned and replaced.

But at least it takes some heat off Apple's antenna issue for a bit.

Read, then go buy a Droid X. Cuz it's awesome!

my thoughts....Moto droid X just released today! this phone is incredibler then the incredible. its worth it. it sucks that cust ROM is locked, but soon enough it will be broken thru. i have the original moto droid, which im using pdanet on it for tethering. so i would miss being able to get it. i think this is a mistake by motorola! but as far as the device goes....%100 worth it. i work for vzw, so i got to play with it b4 the release. i literally wanted to throw my droid out after i saw that big *ss HD screen. using the mobile hotspot thru Droid X/vzw, only $20/mth which gives you 2Gb/mth...Not BAD! come in to VZW and take a look. you'll be impressed!

[citation][nom]joytech22[/nom]It's like mototola are going BACKWARDS.. why the hell would you give up freedom? oh yeah.. who cares.. so you don't want your software to be removed or improved upon..[/citation]

I agree, also when I bought your handset, It quit being your handset.

Verizon was mad that custom roms could unlock features they want you to pay for ie: tethering so they "asked" Motorola to do something about it, probably also why there's no Nexus One for Verizon. Nobody is better at finding ways to "monetize" added functions than Verizon. I miss T-Mobile, shame their 3G coverage was non-existent :-(

$20 for tethering? data is data is data, seeing it on your computer or seeing it on your phone is the exact same thing to Verizon. Paying for tethering is the biggest ripoff since text messaging. I'm not even going to get into how fast you would burn through 2 Gb of data. I will NEVER pay extra for tethering, I'll go back to rotary dialing landlines before I let some Wireless behemoth Rape my wallet for shit that should be free.

It's possible this was a Verizon driven change. I surely wouldn't put it passed Verizon to force Moto to do this after seeing how open the original droid was. I have the Droid X and I love it, it is my first android phone, but I do hope it eventually does get rooted at the very least. As of right now it is still a rumor until some poor guy decides to try and possibly bricks his phone.
