I dropped my brothers laptop he recently bought (2nd hand). It is HP Elitebook 8440p.
Now I am currently in a panic situation so I don't know if it is the right forum to post in.

What happened is that when I got up from the sofa, I stucked in the wires and dropped the laptop (screen lid facing downwards). Now there is no sound except for when I attach headphones.

The built-in speakers are what giving this issue. But when I turn the volume up or down, the sound comes for about a second or two and then it is gone again. Tried re-installing the drivers, restarting laptop. Nothing works so far

Please help, I broke something my brother worked so hard to earn money for and I am feeling really ashamed.

Either the speaker connection is loose or the speakers are broken. You might be able to check the cable that runs from the speakers to the motherboard and reconnect that, but that requires opening the laptop and can be a little time consuming if you're not experienced.
