Solved! Dv 9730us laptop has trouble

My cd/dvd drive is not working. The drive is not bad because we put new one in and had same problem. CD's will read on other computers but not mine. In the "My Computer" where you see C Drive, Backup Drive and the D Drive (CD/DVD), the icon for the D Drive is gone. What can be done? Also battery keeps getting really hot. What can be done for these problems?

In regard to the CD drive, if it is a new drive, it is probably an issue with a connection to the motherboard or simply a bad cable. See the sticky thread at the top of the forum on how to take apart a laptop (general directions) if you want to go that route. How old is the battery? If it is on its last leg, heating up could be a sign that you may need a new one.
