According to AudioRevolution.com's review, the LD section of the DVl-91 DVD/LD
combo unit was sourced from the 70x series, namely the same parts used for the
CLD-D704 and CLD-79. A lot of you seem to regard the 704/79 quite highly, but
pan the combo units for having "inferior" LD-playback in comparison. I'm well
aware of the shortcomings of the 91's early DVD section, but I fail to
understand how it could be any worse where LD is concerned then a 704, assuming
the parts are the same. Can anyone comment on this? Has anyone actually done a
heads-up between the 704 (or 79) and a DVL-91? Has anyone even ever tried both
units at home, on the same display? I'm not particularly interested in a combo
unit, I'm enjoying the quality DVD players we already own and have no need for
another. But I'm genuinely curious.
