They cripple the fuel economy on all vehicles now, then they put out talking points like: "well, the new safety features add weight" for the idiots to repeat to each other. The my car weighs twice as much as a SmartCar, and has 2.5x the engine displacement. My car gets 30mpg, the SmartCar gets 40, how the f*ck did they manage to make it get such crappy gas mileage for it's size? It's smaller than a Geo Metro that gets 60mpg, and has a more modern engine with multi-port fuel injection, etc... Anybody who doesn't believe there's a conspiracy is a kook...
 
the hummer 2x more effient than the prius means nothing if we don't know the price of the hummer. what if the hummer is 2x more costly than the prius? hey i got a car in my garage that is 10x more effient than your prius!! But it's $500,000!!!

Interesting thing about that quote from a 200 yr historical context. When the cotton gin was first invented, it's adaptation was slow because it required less reliance on slavery. The nay-sayers of the cotton gin said, "sure, it's efficient, but at what other price?" obviously meaning less slavery which is a common commodity of the era.

Right now, fossil fuel is our slavery market. We get it from foreign land, we can't get enough of it, and it's the very center that drives our economy. When something "green" comes along that reduces our reliance on fossil fuel, it creates chaos in the status quo and is usually met with harsh resistance.
 
Engines have an optimal efficiency at a certain RPM and power output. Usually a gasoline engine is most efficient at 70% of its total power. This is why vehicles are not very efficient. It takes something like 16HP to power a Ford F150 down the road at 60mph. Most of the 5.4liters are around 300hp. So you are using 6% or so of its total power, which is not efficient and results in having 18mpg (New models) or so.

Now this hummer has the motor and generator connected directly to the battery. It will only kick in when needed and when it does it will most likely kick in at its optimal efficiency. If it is a 200hp motor and is putting out 140hp at optimal efficiency yes it is taking more gas, but it is putting out more power per gallon of gas. That power goes to the wheels and to the battery to charge it back up. It will probably only charge to 80% since most batteries charge slowly above that and power will not be used. This will cause the engine to have to throttle down because the power is not being used, resulting in less efficiency.
 
What's the point if it's not as powerful as the regular Hummer's. Well, it's not like anyone uses them for there real use anyways. >_>

Do you really believe yourself? Are you perhaps referring to the completely BS and debunked report by Chris Demorro (or one of the other ones) that claims the Hummer is more green than the Prius, based on stupid assumptions like the hummer will last 400,000 miles and is fully recyclable while the Prius must be disposed of with very little recycled after 100,000 miles or less?

Those reports are fodder for people who want to justify buying big vehicles to make up for their own small "engine."

The term hybrid is used to cite the fact that it has multiple methods for energy storage, not because it has two separate methods/motors for driving the wheels.
The 100mpg equivalence is measured by the amount of energy in a gallon of gasoline versus the amount of stored energy in the batteries. So the 600lbs of batteries in the SUV have the equivalent of slightly more than 0.4 gallons of gasoline, since the electric motors aren't 100% efficient.
 
This fuel rating is a farce. These guys are not counting the fuel required to produce the electricy. The first 30-40 miles are free in their calcultion. They add the first 40 and then the average of 10-11 miles/gallon weighted for the last 60 miles on gas and bingo! 100 miles per gallon. This Hummer requires a 220V line running at 30 Amps for about 8 hrs for a full recharge. Is your electricity free at your house?

The real enemy here is weight. This hummer scores pretty low on that deal.

What I wonder with these electric/hybrid systems is, why don't they put a solar panel on the roof for a partial charge while your car is outside sitting in the sun for 8 hrs waiting for you to get off work. With this behemoth the roof panel is about as big as a K-Mart.
 
this all sounds expensive to me and appears Tesla pricing and availability.
with all these hybrid debate, i can still say the technology and engineering in the Prius is well balanced and indeed is a little greener. yet, i rather have a low weight and low displacement car against a prius.

The Electric Hummer H3 is propelled entirely on electricity by Raser’s 200kW advanced AC induction motor connected to a 4WD transmission. A small high efficiency EcoTech engine uses Raser’s 100KW electric generator to recharge the batteries while driving and provides additional electric power when needed.
 
Why the hell does nobody get that hybrid cars are the most ridiculous invention ever in human history? If the battery gets charged by the gasoline engine, in the end the energy to drive these heavy, expensive and - let's face it - hideous smug-mobiles comes from fossil fuels... And then look at the production; as it has already been pointed out, it's way more complicated to build a prius than a normal 20k$ hatchback, plus the raw materials are shipped all around the world (in the prius's case from canada, over europe and china to japan). So please! If you're environmentally concerned, just buy a Golf diesel and be happy (and it's a much nicer car to be in)
 
The idea for this came from a hardcore group of Prius owners, who basically filled their trunks up with batteries, and get around 100 mpg. No trickery involved, just a longer period of all battery operation, with the gas option if you need to do some serious traveling.

Why hybrid? All electric cars have lousy range. Hybrid solves that. All gas engines have a wide range of inefficient operation. Hybrid solves that.

Why Hummer? 100 mpg Prius' have no trunk space.

Now, dream a little guys. Imagine a battery improvement that takes up the same amount of space, but at 1/6 the weight of lithium ion. I'll bet the Hummer would make better use of the upgrade.

WTB, a full size station wagon tricked out with the Hummer hybrid technology.

And, global warming may be a farce, always keep in mind those thousands of scientists supporting it have their lively hood dependent on government grants to study global warming. Not like they have any bias or anything. Quite a collection of weather data they are putting together, though.
 
Way to mislead... Either you use less energy or more. The source doesn't matter unless you're using solar or wind power, in which the hummer doesn't in this case.

So, will the Prius or the Hummer use more energy per miles? The Hummer will. Which one will pollute more? Again, the Hummer will...
