Emerson tv and rca sound bar?

I have a 55 inch Emerson tv and I just bought an rca sound bar and I've tried everything except the optical why won't it work I have the y adapter and I've tried others no sou d is coming out... help me please?

What connection have you tried?
Why you need Y cable?
