erasing a contact on a VX8560 Chocolate LG

Setting up a kid with a dumb phone, and we are highly exasperated that we can't figure out for the life of us how to delete a contact from the contact list in this phone. Nope, that manual doesn't cover that (who writes this crap?) Yes, you can just blow away the whole contact list, but we want to do it more smartly. Help, anyone?

OK, I figured it out. You can't edit the contacts list if you have the phone set to restrict incoming and outgoing calls. As in, don't ring unless the incoming call is from a number in my contact list. Nope, that's not in the manual. As I said, who writes this crap?
