Error 1015 At&t Apple Iphone 5

I recently received a used At&t Apple Iphone 5 from someone. I want to give it to a friend but there is one problem with the phone. A previous owner must have tried downgrading the software and cause an error on the device. I plugged the phone into iTunes and tried to recover it but every time I do so, error 1015 appears. Can someone please tell me how to fix this and leave links to any required software for the fix. Thank you very much in advance. Have a nice day
