Every mic/headset I've used with this PC has static:
Sennheiser PC310
Creative Draco PC Gaming Headset
And also a standard desk mic
What could be the issue?...every time I'm in a skype call people say I have static, if i lower the mic boost, then they can't hear me, tried re installing drivers but that did nothing as well. My tower sits on a glass surface if that helps.

Solution

Chipset integrated by Realtek® ALC892
Flexible 7-channel audio with jack sensing
Supports S/PDIF output
And military class components..
.
There's no need for an extra card. But if its your craving to spend some bucks, its your call.

It is surely a h/w problem!
Try switching off other appliances on the same power line other than your computer!
Try getting a 3rd party application to adjust mids and bass !
In your mic driver settings, switch off the direct to speaker option.
Keep 0% noise in your room and check!
Only keep the monitor and pc power in the surge and remove the rest and check!
Give your PC a ground wire so as to pass the extra charge!

Gah, tried plugging my PC straight into the wall socket with no other connections near it, still the same :/ Tried those other alternatives with no success as well, could it just be I've had poor luck with each pair of headsets I've had? I was thinking of picking up a cheap creative sound card if that could do the trick.

Putting money in a new card could do something, coz nowadays cards have built in noise reduction at hardware levels..
And there can be a possibility of bad luck with all headsets... haha.
But don't think so!

Wow...I just installed Realtek drivers and now my static has disappeared...strange, should I pickup the sound card anyway for future proofing? Thinking of getting some SteelSeries Siberia V2's.

Which motherboard do you have ?
though there's no need for sound cards these days unless you are using it with high end headsets for like 300-500$..
