[citation][nom]Kaiser_25[/nom]Ya but i think most people just have them up in the background while doing other stuff...(games..work)..statistics can be bent to represent what you want them to...imo[/citation]
86.74% of statistics are made up on the spot ya know..

[citation][nom]hokkdawg[/nom]So, is this saying that the general population all have a pathetic social life?[/citation]

Why do so many people associate social networks with a bad social life? I have a good social life and I socialize in real life just as much as I did before Facebook. Now, once all the app spam is blocked, I get great info on what family and friends are up to that I wouldn't have otherwise had, especially with the people I don't see regularly or who are far away.

I limit my friends list to family and friends who I have spoken to at least in the last couple of years (none of those highschool friends from 20 years ago who you really don't care about) and on that list I don't know of a single person who stopped socializing in real life to strictly use a social network. I just don't get where this idea comes from. I mean, I'm sure it happens, but it's no different than someone living their lives on IRC or ICQ. They probably had a bad social life to begin with.

[citation][nom]Rab1d-BDGR[/nom]I'm guessing Farmville is partly responsible - I can't believe how many hour some people spend chugging away at that thing![/citation]

Who are you trying to convince you have a life, yourself, or yourself. Facebook is for narcissist who aren't very good at being narcissistic. If I want to find out what my friends and family are doing, I pick up the phone, and say hey. Otherwise, I don't give a $hit what they are doing at the moment, honestly. Seriously, get a life. Living your life out on a computer is rather borgian and as stated not far off from serial experiment lain, the matrix, etc ... which is where it's trending, give me the red pill, please.

It's funny you flame me for being on the computer while being on a computer yourself. Do you give your boyfriend shit for being gay while taking it from behind as well?

You really think picking up the phone is social interaction? Perhaps you should stop trolling Tom's forums and go outside to do some real social interaction with people. It appears you need the practice.

I only spend about 10 minutes a day on it, which may be difficult for you to understand, but isn't an entire life. That's all it takes to gain some additional info on what's going on in other people's lives that you wouldn't otherwise have, especially for people who are too far away to visit.

It's wonderful that you don't give a shit about your friends and family. Thanks for the info.

Facebook is a waste of time for a geek like me. I am very proud to be one of the "few" people that don't use Social Networking. And yes I assumed that "few" people don't use such services.

I account for about ZERO time contributed to Facebook. I don't have an account on Facebook, or MySpace, or Friendster. You name it, I don't have it.

agree. working in tech support i see lots of facebook windows open, which is problematic because i imagine they get most of their spyware from clicking links out of facebook assuming they are safe when they are not.

that said, on an off topic, i wonder how SC2 has effect Steam activity. i know when you log in it says so and so online, but doesnt say how many are actively playing games on it and since i imagine most people have it start on boot its logical that the number wouldnt have changed despite activity changing. so yeah stats can be bent to show what you want.... just ask activision/IW.

I'm not a FB user, since I quit I have 20 minutes more in my day, maybe 30, and less hasstle from people about stupid events, messages, harassment and whatever. Life is so much simpler and enjoyable since I quit Facefuckbook.

Yes, but I'm working, and at the moment tomshardware is far more interesting than writing design documents. I see I touched a nerve, you must know it's true, otherwise you wouldn't justify yourself. I'm in agreement with the other guy no matter how you slice it, if you are over 18 and on facebook you are a douche, hell, I might even let you have the college years.

And no, I don't give a $hit about what my family or my friends are doing every minute of every day.

-----------

talking on the phone = real actual interaction, posting on FB = epic douchery.

Wow, acadia, you're surprisingly ignorant.

Exactly why is it you feel the need to defend yourself like that?

And by the way, fyasko, only douchebags would use the phrase "epic douchery".

FB User = Blue Pill, nuff said. Oh my good someone defriended me on FB, I have to go see a psychologist now, I'm so hurt. I mean why did they do that, I mean, my picture no longer appears on their social wall, they must hate me. Oh.... it's time to take out the razor blades. FB has one purpose ****ing people you knew back in the day, who wouldn't give you the time of day now, but now that they realize no body gives a $hit that they were Mr or Ms Popularity in HS they have to get it however it's offered.

New hookups also happen.

In any event,

"posting on FB = epic douchery"

I`m kind of bored of Facebook, I only keep it to keep in contact with far-flung family members and whatnot. No games, no loopt, or any of that other stuff. At least not right now. IRC is where it`s at 😉

I agree, I normally have email, facebook, netflix, work stuff, ect always open in a tab.
