EVF on a sunny day

My biggest complaint with my EVF camera is with the viewfinder. I wear
eyeglasses and in bright sunlight I can't see the image unless I remove
them and jam the camera right against my eyeball.

A better solution might be a flexible rubber eyecup that would shade the
viewfinder and let me keep my glasses on. But Canon doesn't seem to
make them for the S1IS.

Are there any other sources for eyecups for the S1IS?

Try eBay, I searched for "eyecup camera" and came up with this page:

I do completely agree : using Minolta A1/A200/etc... at work, I really
find it a pain in the bottom in bright light - couldn't even SEE the
viewfinder with bright sun on snow (.

Unfortunately, I couldn't think of a better solution than crying loud
the loss of an old Olympus2100 (very noisy sensor, but true optical
reflex viewfinder) and thinking of a 300d (I finally bought one for
personal use)...

As the brightness of the EVF is fixed, I don't think a bigger eyecup
would be a very good solution - you could also use the big black cloth
used with antique folding cameras, but you will still need the time and
pain for your eye to accomodate to the dim brightness of the EVF.

I also thought that it could be a better idea for the manufacturers to
have the EVF backlit by AMBIENT light, e.g. by a translucid white piece
of plastic, in addition to somefixed lighting. Then you would have a
bright-but-not-dazzling viewfinder in low light, and a
bright-as-ambient one in bright light.
But as it has still not been made, it might be an unrealistic idea???

Yes I did, sorry for the confusion (it was a fixed-lens SLR).

It might be a question of taste, but I felt the available adjustement
on the aformentioned cameras (minoltas) was WAY insufficient in bright
light.

I don't have an S1, but I bought eyecups for my two Olympus cameras from an
eBay seller called birthdayboy2. It looks like he has S1 eyecups for sale:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=46315&item=7506842012&rd=1

The other alternative is to go to a fully stocked hunting store, and see if any
of the rifle eyecups they sell will fit your S1.

The Sony "Maviacam" that wrote to a floppy had that feature, in practice it
didn't work well at all, unless of course the camera was at an agle to the
sun that usually put your subject at the wrong angle for good photos. (sun
directly overhead or slightly in front of the camera.

Ummm, the C-2100UZ has an EVF not an optical reflex viewfinder (and at ISO 100,
I don't notice the noise). Perhaps you meant the C-2500L which if I remember
the specs right had an optical viewfinder and had a fairly nosiy sensor.

Hmmm, on my C-2100UZ, I can adjust the brightness of the EVF and LCD. I
assumed you can do it for any camera.

I can adjust the EVF and the LCD brightness on my Fuji S7000. I wonder
if your camera does offer same.

Precisely what I was looking for. Funny my previous search on ebay
missed this seller.

Thank you.
