Excel attachment does not open directly from outlook

please help.,
I need to first save the copy of that attachment then I am able to open it. But why? By double clicking on attached excel file, i can not open it - please help

Probably something to do with the security features in outlook. You'll have to "turn down" the security settings depending on what version you are using.

You likely have read only rights on the attachment. When you save it, you take ownership of it.
