Experiencing issues with earphone jack.

My laptop is running windows 10. The speakers play sound even when earphones are plugged in. The earphones play no sound but the staticbsound can be heard. If i open "Sound" in control panel, no device is detected. How can I repair this?

what is your sound card realtek try updating sound drivers. also try sound properties select the earphones as the default device to see if sound comes in

The earphones do not show up in sound properties. I'm now experiencing a change in the behaviour. Sometimes the soind plays through the speaker and earphones and sometimes only the earphones. Am I right in thinking this is an issue with the jack?

are you in realtek settings or what is your sound card
