External monitor

Hello,
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545, and want to run an external monitor with the case closed. Is this possible?

You'll have to experiment. The lid switch is supposedly there to prevent the screen overheating. If it's only there for that reason it shouldn't shut down the external video or the computer.

But the keyboard also acts as an exit for heat from the mainboard so the lid switch may shut down the computer.
