Are there monitors made that will accept connection(s) from 2
computers .... with a software or physical switch to control which one
is active? What I'd like is an external monitor that I could use as
the second monitor with my 2 monitor desktop system, yet have this
monitor also serve as an external monotor for my notebook when I want
to use it, without having to switch cables around. If not, are there
any good switches available that I could use to switch between
computers?

A KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) switch will do what you're wanting to do, if
I understand you correctly. You may not need the KM portion of it, but the
video by itself should be fine.
