I have an old Philips 47PFL3603D/F7 (https://www.usa.philips.com/c-p/47PFL3603D_F7/119-cm-47-inch-full-hd-1080p/specifications). It has SPDIF output & HDMI v1.3. I am wondering if I need SPDIF specific speakers or if SPDIF works with regular coax cables. Also, if I plug my game system & chromecast into the TV, will they play sound through the speakers or need to be plugged into the speakers directly to work?

Any help or speaker recs would go a long way. Shooting for ~$180ish.

SPDIF is oftentimes a COAX DIGITAL connection, and is old and outdated, unlikely to find in external speakers.

Fortunately for you, SPDIF is a close cousin of Toslink, add a gadget like THIS, and buy any active (self powered) speakers system with Toslink and you are done.

So basically this will convert my digital coaxial to digital optical, which tends to be available for all newer speakers? Do you have any idea if I can expect my HDMI-connected devices via TV to play through my digital coax -> digital optical speakers without any issues?
