I just got the JBL LSR305 speakers (connected to PC, Windows 10), and I'm not sure if they're faulty or I'm doing something wrong.
Certain sounds like vocals are almost inaudible and very echoey whereas other sounds are extremely loud. Nothing I do seems to make a difference to this, and it's true for both speakers.

I'm using these cables:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00Y2LANNW/
Plugged into the MSI Gaming 5 motherboard:

Solution

If it is any consolation, my step father once managed to fit a wall mounted, fold out table both back to front AND upside down.

Is your sound output set incorrectly, ie for 5.1 or 7.2 surround sound?

Right click the volume icon on the task bar and select "Playback Devices"

Highlight "Speakers and click "Configure", the should be set to Stereo.

Also check the MSI audio software options, to make sure you havent selected "Hallway" or Dungeon" etc.

It is set to stereo (although the left and right sounds come out of both speakers).

All the sound effects options are set to "none" in the MSI options.

I had a Microsoft support person reinstall the audio drivers for me through remote desktop and the issue persists. Issue also persists on my laptop (through the same cables).

Yes, he has a few foibles; he still insisting the George Cross is the Welsh flag, not the English flag.

May I ask what cables you bought after that and why was the original cable the wrong one? (I'm an audio equipment / cables noob)

The cable he listed was stereo 3.5mm to stereo 1/4", but what he needed was stereo 3.5mm to mono left/right 1/4". Something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Hosa-CMP-153-Stereo-Breakout-Cable/dp/B000068O3C

(First example I found so I'm not advocating this particular item)

Keep in mind that the LSR's are designed for a balanced input and this gives it an unbalanced one. It still can work, but sometimes there has been problems with some setups.
