Randi Zuckerburg just needs to shut her mouth, and keep it shut. I can just tell from pictures of her that's she's about as sharp as a nickel.

RoboTree makes a fair point about the intent of the statement - but whilst people with good upstanding friends might not want them to find out that they're a pillock online, there are plenty of pillocks that have a friend-base / peer-group of pillocks who'd probably not mind and/or would boast about trolling etc.

There was one nasty case where some girl jumped under a train and the group of people who'd be saying unfavourable things about her (and were thus blamed for pushing her to it) continued to do so quite harshly once she was dead - all this with real names in use and fully visible. Some people are just nasty...

can everyone please just auto thumbs down all comments from K-zon? he just spouts long messages of drivel that make no sense

[citation][nom]sync_nine[/nom]In my language Randi means a hooker lol[/citation]

I believe that you're Indian or speak Hindi/Urdu or a similar dialect. See? you just partially lost your anonymity. 😛

Randi Zuckerberg believes that [strike]anonymity[/strike] privacy on the Internet has to "go away."

[citation][nom]jsc[/nom]Yes, Facebook definitely has a vested interest in this. The closest I come to a social networking site is here.[/citation]

Yep and we are taking notes on you.... nope not worth stalking... next victim.

From most of these comments all I read is Bahhhh, Bahhhh. Such a lack of critical thinking and independent thought!
There are ups and downs to the removal of anonymity:
Take away anonymity and you can determine who is trustworthy and worthy of your attention. You can build social credibility. Just because your no longer anonymous it doesn't mean that you lose any freedom of speech, it does mean that some people will have a better idea of whether or not they will follow you or if your ideas are credible.

Keep anonymity and how can a real life revolution happen if you don't know if the people behind the words are just random kids that have never stepped outside of their homes, or worse yet just someone looking for anyone that may possibly be against their own beliefs?

As an example: the group Anonymous could be a government/corporate sanctioned entity just trying to scare people into trusting their sponsors (ex. Security software company/government agency).
On the up side of keeping anonymity, we keep our security in knowing that if we believe in something different, we can spout our comments and not have to worry about consequences, as we currently do. Ah! Yes a dream world were everyone can do and say as they please without any consequences.

One thing to remember is that unless you never use a credit card, never post anything from work or home, and never use any device that has any of your real information associated with it in any way, you truly are not anonymous anyway.

Of course I can't cover all the ups and downs a non anonymous internet, nor do I want to spend anymore time on the idea than I already have. Have a nice day!

I was on facebook for a couple months, put the minimum of info that anyone can find on me by just browsing a few things that have to do with our crunching team. When I bought my house I was in alot more places than that. I watched my kids and grandkids put all of their personal info on facebook, when they were leaving, coming home, etc. I smacked them on the side of the head and told them thanks for letting me know when I can rob your houses, its much appreciated. I deleted the account six months ago because well, frankly its freakin boring, Id rather read, watch a movie or break out a game. The info they got from me was minimal but it is amazing what people enter and post and the fights it starts when ex girlfriends start posting on my sons page.... life is a riot.

Because we live in a world with very serious criminal minds I think freedom in general always should allow you to use your real name and also it should allow you, on very sensitive subjects or situations, to use acronyms, anagrams, pseudonyms or any identification you could imagine to protect yourself or a specific message.

What happens with Facebook is people willingly and happily publish all kind of personal information, but they may not be aware what doors they are opening to whom. In this regard Facebook directives should create awareness and provide the tools to protect their users and the general public about personal security. But why they run around the real problem? Because they don't really treat people as human beings but just as paying customer, and the customer is always right. Right? So Randi Zuckerberg should protect the privacy of real persons and should not endorse or patronize with indulgence the faulty and naive use of freedom of Facebook's customers.

"The use of real names online could help curb bullying and harassment on the web," she told the audience. "I think anonymity on the Internet has to go away. People behave a lot better when they have their real names down. I think people hide behind anonymity and they feel like they can say whatever they want behind closed doors.- Randi Zuckerberg, the sister of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg "
Randi, did you wake up stupid and arrogant or did you bang your head?Did you ever...ever..EVER! stop to realise that for many people, bullying and harassment results when their identity is disclosed? Did it knock ring any bells in that seemingly cobweb-ridden brain of yours, that some many people would otherwise be tortured and killed for the crime of thought? Did it ever register any brain cells, that anonymity can also breed creative talent? Creative media? Freedom of expression? Finally, here's something to oil the rusty bits. When someone knows my name, where I live and who I mingle with - when they know it just by accessing the web - it automatically makes me a target for stalking. Your stupid narrow-minded fantasy I feel, opens up the flood-gates to every sick, depraved pervert, pedophile, robber, stalker, terrorist and murdering scum on the face of the planet. For what you are proposing is a phone book of targets that can be easily accessed and traced.Screw you and your Big Brother propaganda. People like YOU are the reason people like ME don't sign up the Face Book in the first place, the reason why I don't sign up the Google+, the reason I use all manner of fakery (ooh, the nerve), to ensure my views propagate free speach. What do you want: to find out who I am from this text, then to come round my house under some corporate-funded directive and declare me a criminal? Because that seems to be what you're shoveling.Your cure is far, far worse than the disease. Shove it where the sun doesn't shine. Have a nice day.[/citation]

Thumbs up!
Stop trying to regulate and control the web! People should be able to do whatever they want, and as of right now I believe internet is the only place that lets you do that. Besides all those horrible things you talk about will happen anyway. People will still build bombs, bully your fat, spoiled brats, rape your mom, kidnap your dog etc.

[citation][nom]the_krasno[/nom]...deleting facebook account, removing bookmark, accepting Google Plus invite...[/citation]

enjoy being there with the big whopping 5 people that have an account. might as well just delete and start keeping in touch with people the old fashioned way. also i think google is on the same page as face book for wanting something like this.

also if anonymous was having second thoughts about bringing facebook down there not now after reading this

The problem with getting rid of anonymity is that people take things a lot more seriously when you know a person is putting their actual name behind their comments. If somebody is just trolling under a username then I don't even pay attention, but if a user using their real first and last names starts spouting racist comments (for example) then you know they really mean it.

What I'm trying to say is that using anonymous accounts allows us to shrug off the negative comments because we know that people are apt so say whatever pops into their mind. A better example is probably when people make death threats. I've seen them dozens of times and nobody ever takes it seriously, but if you make a death threat on facebook you could end up in jail.

I second this view about facebook s apparently dumb PR director completely.
( We've just reacting on the data mined through use of real names 😉 )

Anonymous. If you're reading this.

Do it. Take these arrogant fools down. I'm not a big fan of yours but you'll score massive points with me if you ruin the Zuckerberg regime.
