Factory settings reset has got stuck

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite C660-119. I dropped it on the floor yesterday and every program I tried to open since would just crash. I've finally managed to get all my important stuff off and am now in the process of doing a reset back to factory settings.
I've got as far as 'finishing the installation' but now there is an issue. I have the loading bar across the screen but it has been stuck on installing 'Intel Chipset SW Installation Utility' which is 1 of 39 for over an hour. I know I am not supposed to turn it off but I can't see any other solution to the issue.
Does anybody have any ideas?

IT sounds like you have a bad HDD. If you are able to, plug it into a secondary computer and run some tests on it.

Thank you, I feared that could be the issue. There are other problems with it too (the fan and battery need replacing) looks as though I am better off getting a new one.
