Fanless laptop comparisons

Ever since getting a fanless laptop, I've found it impossible to go back. The processing power might be lower, but it's worth it not having a mini-jet engine sound every time I do a demanding task. I've been using my laptop for the last year and a half (i3 model, not i5), and it works pretty well. However, it slogs a bit when playing Path of Exile or a couple other lightweight games. Recently, I found this pretty killer deal on ebay here. According to notebook review, the processor is a bit better than the i5 4202y, the screen is better, overall it's just better. I was wondering if lightweight gaming would see any improvement, and if it would overall be worth the $100 to upgrade.

Actually there would be a little improvement with the Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140 since it has a better graphics card and processor compare with the HP one. But they are matched with their storage and memory.

The Intel HD 5300 is a little better the Intel HD 4000 while the Intel HD 4200 is a little slower than the Intel HD 4000 so you will be gaining some performance on the iGPU side.

One con that I've read about the Dell Venue 11 Pro is that it runs fairly hot based on the following review, but that is based on how hot the external of the chassis felt not the actual temp of the CPU. If it feels hot on the outside, then it would be rather hot on the inside as well.

Heat

With Intel's new Core M processor, the Venue 11 Pro 7000 is supposed to run cooler than previous systems, but it didn't. After streaming a Hulu video at full screen for 15 minutes, the Dell got fairly hot, hitting 102 degrees Fahrenheit above the logo on its back. We find temperatures of 95 degrees and higher uncomfortable.

At least the keyboard dock remained cool, registering temperatures in the 70s, so it's still comfortable to keep it on your lap.

The last time I was at BestBuy they carried the Dell Venue 11 Pro (at least in my area). If you live near a BestBuy then maybe they will have a floor model of it for you to checkout. If you have a thumb drive, I recommend you download the portable version of Speccy (linked below which does not require admin rights to install) that measures the CPU temp as well as provide other information, and a small video file in case there is no WiFi connection for the Dell to go to Youtube and let a video play for a while.
