Question fire stick not recognizing USB disc

I just got a fire stick 4K. It mostly works well but there are a few quirks. There is an app so you can control the stick.
The fire stick can have have an USB thumb drive to expand the using an otg cable. Once the drive is connected the fire stick shows a notice and asking if you want to format the drive. Those screens are the same as posted elsewhere but there's no screen asking how to use the drive. I've tried filelinked. But it says no internet access. I've tried everything I can think of but so far nothing has helped. Any help would be appreciated.

Seems you need the 4k MAX model to use the USB drive to expand the storage. Otherwise you need to use a file browser app to view files on the USB stick. https://www.lifewire.com/connect-usb-drive-to-firestick-5201861
