Free Game Engine

Hi,
I want to use a game engine for my own use to download for free. I was going to download CryEngine, but now it requires membership. I saw that Unity is free, but I don't know how good that is. Can someone please recommend a good game engine?

Panda3d, Ogre3d, JMonkey Engine, Blender game engine. Unity and UDK have trial type versions.
