Function Key for external monitor does not work (F7)

HI everyone, I have a Sony VAIO, and it crashed recently so I had to install windows again. I chose to install Windows Ultimate which is fine except for the fact that it wiped all the VAIO controls and the function key no longer worked.. I have visited lots of blogs and have come across lots of people suggestions and I have tried the following

Work around:
Control Panel, windows mobility centre, connect to presentation or external display... Neither worked.

Went to Sony website and looked up their suggestions, and they said to download certain drivers from their download area... when I looked they didnt have them so I looked at what other people suggested which is download:
SONY settings utilites - install, reboot
SONY Shared Library - install, reboot
VAIO event manager - install and reboot

This did fix the function key for sound controls and I can use the function to change a few bars of the brightness setting but not all the way up and down... but my biggest problem is the F7 function i.e. to put output to an external monitor or TV doesnt work, so I cant present anything on a display.

Is there an updated keyboard driver for win7 on Sony's website?

You could do a 'Restore to Factory' Windows installation. That gets you all the Sony drivers and utilities.
For a Sony Vaio I think it's Alt+F10 at power on to get that option.
