Hey all, Im in the zone of buying a new laptop. Not looking for a very high end machine, budget is about 1200.

I've found a couple laptops in which i think are pretty good, Just want some other opinions on which I would lean for more.

I understand the 960m / 965m are not THAT GOOD, I game more on my ps4 now anyways, and i'd only use the laptop for more of the mmo factor / FL studio / Adobe etc.

Asus ROG: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834232423

MSI Apache: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152738&cm_re=MSI_Computer_GE72_Apache-027-_-34-152-738-_-Product

OR the 960m version with the 5th gen i7:

Gigabyte: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834233094
(I'd have to squeeze out a bit more, but i've heard some very bad things about the durability)

Any opinions would be appreciated. Or any other ideas would be great as well. :D

Personally I have never used this laptop so I can't comment on the build quality. But I assume it should be decent enough to be able to do the things you have said without breaking apart.

Other than MSI all laptops you're gonna find are not made by the "manufacturer" whose logo is on the lappie. Asus is made by Pegatron or Foxcon.

We have all of our business and gaming laptops made by Clevo distributors over the last 10 years or so. Quality is top of the line and each machine is built to your specifications.

CLEVO is a large Taiwanese computer company specializing in laptops. While the Clevo brand name is perhaps not widely known, their products are re-branded and sold by known boutique brand OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers)… notably Sager, VoodooPC, Falcon Northwest, Eurocom, etc. They are also considered (by whoever knows about notebooks) to design and manufacturer the best of the best notebooks in terms of superior build quality and innovative designs.
Last 3-4 years we been getting them from LPC

There appears to be some kind of prohibition of undercutting other dealers pricing so advertised prices on every dealers site are identical. That doesn't mean you can't cut a deal or that they don't offer discounts that aren't advertised.

I've heard that its very flimsy and bad overall durability. Is it true?? Maybe I'm wrong... But regarding to what I know, Think its worth the sacrifice of build quality for more performance?

Personally, I am unwilling to sacrifice one for the other.

All of the super expensive laptop vendors use Clevo as their supplier. Alienware used Clevo before they were bought by Dell, Widow PC, FalconNorthwest, Voodoo etc. The "store brands" select components to meet a price point and to do that, will select the components you see in the ads to "sell" quality but the ones that are not in the ad are usually much less so in order to meet that price point.

Laptops take a beating, small space = high heat and cooling that with any level of performance for gaming makes lappies heavy.... so substituting aluminum for copper is one of the 1st steps taken in this regard. Lower performing HDs is another early step in price cutting. By starting w/ a solid chassis and great cooling, you are off to a good start with Clevo and hand picking each component that goes in let's you choose the balance of performance vs quality vs price.
