Right, so I'm looking to buy a desktop replacement laptop and it seems to have come down to the Asus G751Y as it's cheaper than the MSI GT72 Dominator Pro but has similar specs. I've just read that Origin are putting desktop CPUs in their laptops now but the price to ship one of those things to England is ridiculous (as I just found out by completing the spec form). Does anyone have advice on whether it will be best to wait a bit longer until the other companies follow suit and I can pick one up in England rather than have it shipped, or is it better to just get the Asus now and stop thinking too far ahead in an industry that changes so frequently?

Thank you for your precious time.

A friend of mine has an older i7 and GTX 870m option. Its brilliant. He takes it over to all his mates places so he can play multiplayer against them on all demanding games without any issues. And graphics card-wise the 980m massively outperforms the GTX 870. And his has a 3200 × 1800 resolution screen, although he normally games at 2560x1440. For 1920x1080 resolution that Asus laptop is a beast of a system.

The 980m is between the GTX 960 and GTX 970 for performance, which is all you need for 1080p gaming or even GPU accelerated video rendering.

Those quad core mobile i7s and 980m work brilliantly for gaming. In fact the GTX 980 easily out performs the GTX 960.

It already has the performance you need for gaming. You do not need to worry about spending more money on extra performance, especially at 1080p resolution.

As far as the CPU it runs at least on par with a i5 4460 in my opinion, so it has all the power you need for 1080p gaming. Don't stress about missing out. Its a lot of extra money for small gains.

Do you use a laptop comparable to the Asus yourself? What you're saying echoes my thoughts really, I was just curious to see if anyone had had experience using a laptop with the desktop CPUs as it seems likely that now the Origin ones are out more companies will follow their lead. Anyway, thanks for your reply, I'll probably just go with the G751.

Hello again! Do you know if Asus include a Windows boot disk or some way to do a fresh install of windows from your experience with other pre-built laptop ? I format my drives every so often just to freshen them up and problems are bound to pop up in future so having the Windows disk is essential really. Have you had any experience with the software side of things?

They usually come with the operating system already loaded these days. I can't remember if I got a disc with it as well, but it should say on the store page if it has one.
