Gaming on laptop issues

I currently own an acer laptop and play quite a lot of games on it.
Recently I can't play anything on my laptop without any lag.
Even the games I played comfortably before started lagging.
Any solution to it ?

These are the solutions I have tried
1) Re installing the graphics driver
2) Running malware bytes
3) Defragment of my drive

And I've also noticed that my computer makes less noice now when I play..

Can you post full specs of your laptop, also you should monitor the temps while gaming for CPU and GPU which is a common problem in laptops, you can use something like HWMonitor.

My specs are :
Intel core i5 1.7ghz
Nvidia 840m 2gb
4gb ram

And I also noticed something unusual my laptop used to heat up a little while I played but now it's really cool.. maybe there's a problem with the fans ?

You should check the temps on CPU and GPU and see if they go to high when the issue appears.
