Getting my 5.1 Speakers to work

Hey all,

I have a Creative SBS580 set of speakers which I want to connect to my PC. The motherboard I have is ASUS H81M-E. For some reason I can't get the speakers to work on my system. After some research over the internet, I understand that I would need some 5.1 external sound card for the speakers to work?

Can someone please confirm if this is the only method or is there an alternative? Plus if someone could list the steps I need to get the speakers working, it would be wonderful.

Your mobo should support 7.1 channel output and is supposed to detect speakers when you plug them in. Check the drivers and that the speakers show in the audio control panel.

The speakers have three audio connectors, black, green and orange while my MOBO has 3 audio input connectors blue, green and pink. Which ones should I connect? Plus the speakers are showing in my current audio devices but there is no sound,
